WeatherRuta ("we," "us," or "our") is operated by FallWest Systems LLC. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and share information when you use the WeatherRuta web application at weatherruta.com (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide

When you use WeatherRuta, you enter origin and destination addresses to plan a route. We send these addresses to third-party geocoding and routing services to calculate your driving route. We do not store your route history on our servers.

Information collected automatically

We may automatically collect the following information:

  • Device information: browser type, operating system, screen size, and device type.
  • Usage data: pages visited, features used, and interaction patterns.
  • IP address: collected by our hosting provider (Firebase Hosting) and third-party services for security and analytics purposes.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: used to support advertising, remember your preferences, and measure performance. See Section 5 for details.

Information we do not collect

We do not require account creation, and we do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or payment information. We do not store your route searches or trip history on our servers.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide route calculations and weather forecasts along your driving route.
  • Support advertising through Google AdSense when ads are enabled.
  • Analyze usage patterns to improve the Service.
  • Maintain the security and performance of the Service.
  • Comply with legal obligations.

4. Third-Party Services

WeatherRuta relies on the following third-party services, each of which may collect data according to their own privacy policies:

  • Google AdSense: may display advertisements and use cookies or identifiers to show and measure ads when permitted. Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
  • Google Firebase: provides hosting, cloud functions, and analytics infrastructure. See Firebase privacy information.
  • Open-Meteo: provides weather forecast data. We send latitude/longitude coordinates of route waypoints to retrieve weather information.
  • OSRM (OpenStreetMap Routing Machine): provides driving route calculations. We send origin and destination coordinates to calculate routes.
  • Nominatim (OpenStreetMap): provides geocoding services to convert addresses into coordinates.

5. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

WeatherRuta uses the following types of cookies:

Essential cookies

These are necessary for the Service to function. They include browser storage used to support progressive web app functionality and remember settings.

Advertising cookies

Google AdSense may set cookies to serve ads, limit frequency, and measure effectiveness when advertising is enabled and consent is available where required.

Analytics cookies

We may use analytics cookies to understand how visitors interact with the Service, which helps us improve features and performance.

Managing cookies

Where required, Google presents consent choices for advertising and analytics. You can also configure your browser to block or delete cookies at any time.

6. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following circumstances:

  • With third-party service providers: as described in Section 4, to provide the core features of the Service.
  • For advertising: Google AdSense may use data to show and measure ads. Some U.S. states treat personalized advertising as a data sharing activity.
  • Legal requirements: if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
  • Safety and security: to protect the rights, property, or safety of FallWest Systems LLC, our users, or the public.

7. Data Retention

We do not store your route searches or personal trip data on our servers. Route data is processed in real time and not persisted. Locally stored settings remain in your browser until you clear them.

Server logs maintained by our hosting provider (Firebase) may retain IP addresses and request data for a limited period for security and operational purposes, in accordance with Google's data retention policies.

8. Your Privacy Rights

All users

  • Decline optional advertising or analytics storage when Google presents consent choices.
  • Manage Google ad personalization at adssettings.google.com.
  • Clear local storage in your browser to remove stored preferences.
  • Configure your browser to block cookies.

California residents (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion of your personal information, opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Other U.S. state privacy laws

Residents of Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, and other states with consumer privacy laws may have similar rights. Contact us to exercise any applicable rights under your state's privacy law.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete such information.

10. International Data Transfers

The Service is hosted in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States.

11. Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we process. The Service is served over HTTPS and hosted on Google Firebase infrastructure. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
